WASHINGTONJuly 17, 2025 / — Learning.com has been honored with a Best of Show Award from Tech & Learning for its digital literacy curriculum, announced at ISTE 2025.

The Best of Show Awards are judged by industry experts and editors who evaluate products based on innovation, usability, performance, and potential impact.

PORTLAND, OR., – June 4, 2025 – Learning.com, a leading provider of digital literacy solutions, today announced that it has been selected as winner of the “Overall e-Learning Company of the Year” award in the 7th annual EdTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by EdTech Breakthrough, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies and solutions in the global educational technology market.

Learning.com helps students gain essential skills to safely and proficiently navigate the digital world. The platform’s lesson library includes videos, games, and auto-scoring assessments with prebuilt lesson plans and learning paths – all customizable and automated with optional extensions to dive deeper.

“Only about a quarter of 5th and 8th graders are proficient in digital skills, impacting their educational journey and falling short of the high digital skills competency modern jobs require, ” said Steve Johansson, managing director, EdTech Breakthrough. “Learning.com helps students develop healthy and proficient relationships with technology, improving academic outcomes, developing practical life skills, and ensuring success in the digital world. With the explosion of AI in education, learning AI through interactive, engaging lessons helps students gain the skills needed to succeed while also fostering healthy relationships with technology – essential as AI continues to shape their education and everyday lives.”

The flagship product, EasyTech, offers classroom flexibility, which encompasses all facets of digital literacy including AI; identifying fake news; creating with apps and tools; safely leveraging the power of the internet; and digital citizenship. Whether or not they grow up to be computer scientists, EasyCode provides students the ability to understand algorithms, app development, computer programming, design skills and how the internet works.

“We often think of students as digital natives, but the reality is, they are cell phone natives and we can’t leave their relationship with technology to chance. In our fast-evolving AI era, we must help students build the knowledge and skills they’ll need to use technology responsibly, safely, and effectively. And, we aren’t just talking about preparing them for a digital economy. Students must be able to navigate technology wellto succeed in school today, whether that’s taking an assessment — which is predominantly online — or building healthy habits in their personal life,” said Lisa O’Masta, CEO of Learning.com. “We’re honored to be recognized this year, as schools across the country are having critical and timely conversations about the skills students need to thrive today, and throughout their lives.”

May 6, 2024, Portland, Oregon – As the world observes Mental Health Awareness Month this May, Learning.com, a leading provider of digital literacy solutions, is taking proactive steps to address a pressing issue: the need for young learners to develop healthy relationships with technology. Recognizing that banning technology isn’t the solution, Learning.com is engaging educators and parents in the conversation and providing free tools and resources during the month of May aimed at supporting the creation of positive digital experiences for children. Through an informative webinar with experts in the field on May 21, Learning.com will foster discussions that aim to help students build healthy relationships with technology.

“As parents, educators and humans, it goes beyond mere awareness; it’s about taking action.  We have an obligation to teach our kids how to live safely in the world of technology,” said Learning.com CEO Lisa O’Masta. “We believe that by providing educators and parents with the necessary resources and guidance, we can equip children with the skills they need to navigate their digital world safely and confidently.”

For O’Masta, the issue is personal. In an emotional video, she shared her story of experiencing a parent’s worst nightmare – her teenager attempted to take his own life following a series of common and problematic online interactions. Similar scenarios have played out for families across the country. In fact, the issue is so pervasive that in 2023 the Surgeon General issued a mental health advisory on the dangers of social media for young people.

Yet students must learn to safely and effectively navigate and leverage the vast digital world in order to be college- and career-ready. As a leading provider of digital literacy curriculum, Learning.com is hosting a webinar on “Helping Kids Create a Healthy Relationship with Technology,” on May 21, 2024, at 4 p.m. PDT. The panel will feature the following experts:

  • Dino Ambrosi, Digital wellness speaker and founder of Project Reboot
  • Diana Graber, Author & founder of Cyberwise
  • Merve Lapus, VP of Education Outreach and Engagement, Common Sense Education
  • Cary Perales, Director of Instructional Technology, Corpus Christi Independent School District
  • Lisa O’Masta, CEO of Learning.com as moderator.

Registration is free and both parents and educators are encouraged to attend.

Additionally, Learning.com is releasing some of its popular educational resources for teachers and parents to use throughout Mental Health Awareness Month. The following video lessons and downloadable activities can be found at learning.com/mental-health-awareness-month:

  • Grades K-2. In the video “Pearl’s Private Password” students follow Rocki and Pearl as they learn about usernames and passwords, and gain an understanding of the basics of internet privacy and safety. A downloadable workbook and printable templates allow children to  act out the stories and reinforce takeaways from the lesson
  • Grades 3-5. In “Cyberbullying: A Sticky Situation” students follow Sal as he experiences cyberbullying. Students learn to recognize different types of cyberbullying, and what to do when they see or experience it. Downloadable discussion sheets and a poster encourage students to think about cyberbullying from different perspectives and foster empathy.
  • Grades 6+. The “Dealing with Cyberbullying” video lesson teaches students about the harmful effects of cyberbullying, and reminds older students how to be good digital citizens. Downloadable case studies with prompts to foster critical thinking and deeper discussion among students, teachers and parents.

Acquisition made amid growing global demand to teach K-12 computer science and digital skills

January 24, 2022, New Orleans, Louisiana – Learning.com, a leading provider of digital skills and computer science curriculum, has acquired Codesters, an online platform and coding curriculum, the company announced today at the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC). The purchase bolsters Learning.com’s position as a premier provider of comprehensive digital literacy and computer science curriculum for K-12 schools.

“Across the country, there’s a growing movement to provide computer science education to every student, in every school, at every grade level,” said Learning.com CEO Keith Oelrich. “Our strategic acquisition of Codesters accelerates Learning.com’s expanding presence in the K-12 computer science market.”

To date, 42 states have adopted computer science education standards – up from seven in 2017 – and 27 states require high schools to offer computer science to students. According to a recent Gallup poll, over 65% of teachers, principals and superintendents agreed that “teaching computer science is just as important as teaching core subject areas” like math and English.

As evidenced in the nationally accepted Computer Science Teachers Association standards, computer science encompasses more than just coding, beginning at the youngest ages with essential computer fundamentals and digital citizenship skills. In 2017, Learning.com partnered with Codesters to make some of its coding curriculum available to Learning.com’s EasyCode customers. Now, the acquisition will make it even easier for the 1.6 million students who use Learning.com to access the entire Codesters curriculum and move toward the goal of providing computer science to all students.

Codesters was founded in 2014 by serial education entrepreneur Gordon Smith, along with Juan Farfan, Manesh Patel, David Oblath and Prerak Shukla. These co-founders shared a vision to make computer science curriculum fast, easy and affordable for any K-12 school or district. The web-based curriculum features self-directed lessons that teach kids Python, a programming language frequently used in industry, by transitioning students from block-based to text-based coding.

Vidcode, founded by Alexandra Diracles, Melissa Halfon and Leandra Tejedor and which was acquired by Codesters in 2021, will also become part of Learning.com’s product offerings.  The company’s award-winning suite of products includes online courses in JavaScript, web development and game design. JavaScript and Python are the two most popular programming languages worldwide, according to HackerRank.

The Codesters team will be joining Learning.com, with Gordon Smith joining Learning.com’s executive team as vice president of product strategy.

“I’m extremely proud of the platform we’ve built at Codesters, and excited to reach even more students with critical coding skills as part of Learning.com’s extensive platform,” said Smith. “This is a pivotal moment in K-12 computer science education, and Learning.com is ideally positioned to bring the full range of computer science and digital literacy skills to millions of students across America.”

April 14, 2022, Portland, Oregon – Learning.com’s Tech Quest feature has won top honors in the EdTech Awards 2022 in the category of 21st-century skills solution.

Tech Quest is a recently added feature to Learning.com’s EasyTech K-12 digital literacy curriculum. With one-click implementation, Tech Quest automatically assigns students auto-scored, student-led, self-paced, grade-level curriculum. Students choose an avatar, click on the first step and continue along their pathway, unlocking interactive lessons and videos that teach essential technology skills — without teachers needing to manage the classes or choose lessons.

Critically, the online safety content within Tech Quest meets the requirements of eRate certification. Plus, Tech Quest allows students access to ongoing keyboarding practice to develop fluency and automaticity.

“Tech Quest makes it easier than ever for teachers to ensure all students can easily navigate their devices – safely, efficiently and with future-ready skills that are now essential in every content area,” said Keith Oelrich, CEO of Learning.com. “We know that overstretched teachers and technology coordinators love Tech Quest, but Learning.com is delighted that EdTech Awards judges also recognize its value and innovation.”

The EdTech Awards is the world’s largest recognition program for education technology, recognizing exceptional contributions in transforming education through technology to enrich the lives of learners. This year’s finalists and winners were narrowed from the larger field and judged based on various criteria, including: pedagogical workability, efficacy and results, support, clarity, value and potential.

“As events unfold on the world stage that seem to inch ever closer to a precipice unknown, we are reminded that the leaders and innovators of education technology have always worked on the edge,” said Victor Rivero, who as Editor-in-Chief of EdTech Digest, oversees the awards program. “To the innovators, leaders, and trendsetters in K-12, higher education, and workforce learning who continue connecting, producing and persisting despite all challenges—a hearty hat-tip and a grand salute!”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With the Texas transition to online testing this year, students’ digital skills are a key focus

February 7, 2022, Dallas, Texas – Learning.com’s Senior VP of Sales & Marketing, Theresa Poprac, joins conference host TCEA and Texas districts in a discussion about preparing students for the Texas mandated shift to online testing this school year. The panel session, “Yikes! Online Testing for All Tests?”, will take place on Thursday, February 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, Level 1 Lower D.

“With online assessments, it’s critical that students are equipped with technology skills – from simple navigation to typing to word processing,” says Learning.com’s Poprac, who has worked in the education technology and curriculum field for over 25 years. “Assessments should be an indicator of students’ knowledge and proficiency, not how well they can type or use a computer.”

The Texas Legislature enacted House Bill 3261 in 2021 requiring all state assessments to be administered to students online, with exceptions for students who require accommodations. Texas now joins the other 70% of states in the nation that have shifted to fully online administration of assessments.

Thursday’s TCEA panel will be hosted by Jennifer Bergland, Director of Government Relations for TCEA. In addition to Learning.com’s Poprac, panelists include administrators from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Bullard ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD. The 60-minute panel will discuss what administrators, teachers and technologists need to know in order to successfully make the transition to online assessment administration.

“Districts have been preparing for this transition by providing educators with digital skills-building curriculum like Learning.com’s EasyTech,” says Poprac. “We are supporting them in this transition by providing Prep for Online Assessments, a specially curated sequence of all the skills students will need to effectively complete online assessments.”

Current Texas customers of Learning.com will be provided with access to Prep for Online Assessments. Prospective Texas school district and school campus customers may purchase Prep for Online Assessments by EasyTech starting at the TCEA conference on February 8.
